Previous Hackathons
The MedTech Foundation held it's first Hackathon virtually in 2020, and was centred around the COVID19 Pandemic. Participants from around the country worked in teams (and on Teams) to tackle a range of Unmet Needs, including Mental Health, Education and Training, Public Health and Community. 12 unique solutions were created, and teams were then paired with industry experts to help them develop their ideas where appropriate. Many teams went on to work with these partners to create beta versions of their products, with one team going even further and securing a large Innovate UK grant to bring their idea to market - this team, Medwise.ai, is one of MTF's biggest Hackathon success stories.
In 2022, the MedTech Foundation was able to host its second Virtual Hackathon, this time on Gathertown (a virtual meeting platform). Participants chose from one of the following topics:
-
Sustainability in Medicine
-
The Future of Food
-
Chronic Respiratory Diseases
Workshops were also delivered to adjunct the Hackathon, with presentations ranging from pitching to business model canvasses, to blockchain technologies.
Winners were given a cash prize, as well as opportunities to develop their ideas and work with our partner Bionabu as part of an internship scheme.
This year, MTF is looking forward to delivering our second in-person Hackathon, hosted at Oxford University and Oxford Brookes on the 6th-7th of April 2024. Make sure to watch this space, sign up to our newsletter, and follow our social media to get the latest updates on what's in store for Hack24!
